NEWS CENTRE - Families living in Raqqa and Tabqa have turned their attention to North and East Syria due to attacks by gangs. An appeal for aid has been made due to the high volume of migration in the region.

Kurdish families living in Raqqa and Tabqa are migrating to Northern and Eastern Syria due to attacks by  Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS)  and gangs affiliated with Turkey. Migrating families are being received at the 12 March Martyrs Stadium, while aid committees are placing migrants in schools, academies and the Newroz Camp in Derik.

According to a report by ANHA, the number of displaced families is increasing by the hour. It was reported that thousands of families have been displaced and that the migration is still ongoing.

Cold weather and shelter problems

Due to the intensity of the migration, many families were forced to spend the night in open areas and parks. It was stated that the cold weather conditions posed serious health risks, especially for children and the elderly.

Health services mobilised

Heyva Sor a Kurd has increased healthcare services in Qamishlo and Hesekê, opening its clinics to migrants. Mobile clinics have also been deployed in migration areas, and it has been reported that the number of doctors and nurses has been increased.

'Urgent basic needs must be met'

Abdullah Hemîd Mano, director of the Rojava Aid Organisation, pointed out that the number of migrants arriving in Hesekê and Qamişlo is very high, saying, ‘These families have an urgent need for water, food, blankets and basic living supplies.’

Recalling that the region had previously experienced intense migration, Abdullah Hemîd Mano noted that local institutions were struggling to meet the need with their current resources and appealed to international organisations, saying, ‘Aid is vital. The situation is very serious.’
