Siege intensifies in Kobanê: Over 600 thousand people at risk 2026-02-17 12:55:52   NEWS CENTER - The humanitarian crisis in Kobanê is deepening under the siege of HTŞ gangs. Basic necessities and health services are inadequate, and more than 600,000 people, especially babies and the elderly, are at risk of disaster.   HTŞ, ISIS, and jihadist gangs affiliated with Turkey have placed the city of Kobanê under heavy siege since January 20. This situation has further worsened access to humanitarian, health, and basic services for over 600,000 people, with warnings that a catastrophe could occur in the near future.   Basic necessities are severely depleted in Kobanê's city center and surrounding areas, and humanitarian aid is not being allowed into the region. This situation has directly impacted the health sector; hospitals and health centers are operating with extremely limited resources, and there are serious shortages of many types of medication.   Mothers complain about the lack of baby formula, noting that this poses a major risk to infants' lives. Health workers warned that if the current situation continues, diseases related to malnutrition could increase, especially among children and the elderly.   The people of Kobanê and local institutions called for the urgent opening of humanitarian corridors to allow the passage of humanitarian aid. Officials emphasized that the siege constitutes a violation of humanitarian law.
